I’ll admit it. I love any kind of blending. Whether it’s ombre, multicolour, watercolour, simple, complex, I love it. ❤
These three blending techniques are so easy that once you learn them I am sure you’ll love them just as much as I do!
Technique #1
This technique is SUPER EASY and creates a beautiful ombre look.
SUPPLIES
Two colours of water based brush pens such as the Tombow Dual Brush Markers, Ecoline Brush Pens or Karin Markers
Smooth paper that is suitable for brush pens (I like the Canson Mixed Media Sketchbook and Rhodia Pad)
STEP 1
Apply some ink from the darker coloured brush pen directly onto the lighter colour’s tip. Depending on the look you’re going for, feel free to add as much or as little colour as you like. Play around with different colours and amounts and see what you like best.
STEP 2
Write your word. If you run out of colour just repeat step one, adding the darker colour directly onto the lighter. How easy was that?
Technique #2
Very similar to technique #1, this is great for when you want to add more than one colour of blending to your piece.
SUPPLIES
Two or more colours of water based brush pens such as the Tombow Dual Brush Markers, Ecoline Brush Pens or Karin Markers
Smooth paper that is suitable for brush pens (I like the Canson Mixed Media Sketchbook and Rhodia Pad)
Tombow Blending Palette, piece of ceramic or plastic freezer bag
STEP 1
Scribble a little bit of your darker colour(s) onto the blending palette.
STEP 2
Using the lighter colour, pick up a bit of ink from the blending palette. Write your word, picking up more colour if needed. You can use this technique with as many colours as you want.
Technique #3
SUPPLIES
Two colours of brush pens such as the Tombow Dual Brush Markers, Ecoline Brush Pens or Karin Markers
Colourless blender pen (I like the Tombow Colourless Blender)
Smooth paper that will withstand blending (I love the Canson Mixed Media Sketchbook)
STEP 1
Write your word with the lighter colour brush pen.
STEP 2
Apply the darker colour to either the top or bottom half of your word. You can go down as far as you want, but leave enough room for the blender to work.
If your brush pens are dual tipped, you may want to use the bullet tip for this part.
STEP 3
Using the colourless blender, pull down (or up) the darker colour, blending it into the lighter to create an ombre look.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will have fun experimenting with the wonderful art of brush lettering blending! 🙂
